Charity Challenge 2021 – Week 4 Night 4

Charity Challenge 2021 – Week 4 Night 4

We’ve arrived at the business end of the competition and tonight if I manage to pull off a win I’ve completed the 2021 Charity Challenge win.

Before we get started I just want to take the opportunity to thank everyone for following along, for donating and for all your kind words of support this month.

The Choice

Rachel’s staring down the barrel of a week 4 loss and losing tonight means she’s lost the competition. So tonight she has to make a big call and she’s decided to pick one of her strongest remaining games. So tonight we’re playing Cottage Garden.

The Game

Cottage Garden is a cousin to Patchwork, a game we’ve already played in the competition this year.  In Cottage Garden, like Patchwork, you are placing tetris shapes on a board trying to fill in spaces.  Cottage Garden is more straight forward than its cousin, there’s no currency or engine aspect to the game.  On your turn you simply take a piece and place it one of your two boards, the winner is the person who continually fills in their boards the fastest.  There’s a few other mechanics in the game that help you fill out your board but that’s more or less what it comes down to.  You score points based on the number of pots you leave uncovered on the board, by optimizing the way you place your pieces.

The Result

It was clear that I was on the prowl tonight. I jumped to an early lead and fought to maintain the lead. Rachel fought back hard and came close but in the end I managed to best her 68 to 58.

AND WITH THAT! I’VE WON THE COMEPTITION!

Rachel won the first three years of the competition and I’ve now won three in a row. So next year is going to be an epic show down, and we can’t wait to see you then.

We will be playing out the last week of games. Rachel is actually currently ahead by a game in terms of game wins/losses. So we want to see if she can lose the competition BUT still manage to win the most games. It’s never happened and she’s keen to see if she can pull it out.

Thank you all again – we’ll see you for the final days of the competition!
